THQ's properties started being sold left and right, with Nordic Games picking up the bulk of their IPs, and even the rights to the THQ publishing name. Unfortunately, THQ bit the dust not long after the release of Darksiders 2, and despite garnering a larger audience, the future of the franchise was put into serious jeopardy. One of the last games released by THQ was the well-received Darksiders follow-up Darksiders 2, which many saw as a vast improvement over the original. They even started a new hardcore action game series in the vein of God of War or Devil May Cry called Darksiders.

During its dying years, THQ actually made an effort to put out as many high quality games as possible, ditching the casual-focused projects that largely defined their past.
